UPDATED CLASS NEWS & OTHER
HAPPENINGS SINCE OCTOBER 2007
On December 28, 2007, Hal & Sarah Jane Dvorin met George & Ruth Beloz and Ken & Jan Levinson for pizza at BJ's
Restaurant & Brewhouse in Laguna Beach, CA. The Dvorins were in CA to attend the 2008 Rose Bowl game between
Illinois and Southern Cal. Shortly after this picture was taken, Ken & Jan moved to their new home in Ft. Collins, CO.
In September of 2009, Ken sent the following update: We've been in Fort Collins 1 1/2 years, enjoying retirement. I play
frequently in a German polka band and a 7-piece New Orleans Dixieland band. Both of those band have paid gigs. I'm also in 3
community bands and 2 dance bands of 16-17-pieces. Those are not paid gigs because they are at retirement homes, senior
centers, and other area venues. I play just to stay in shape. Most of the players are over 50, some even in their 80's and still are
strong players. I bought a used clarinet. Depending upon the band, I may be on the tenor sax or the clarinet. Jan really likes to
hear me play "Clarinet Polka".

Jan reports that Ken recently celebrated his 70th birthday with 90+ guests, and he is building a model railroad layout in their
garage.

In March of 2009, Ken told George that he had met a Cathy Syler in a Ft. Collins store and learned that she is Roy Syler's wife.
The Sylers also live in Ft. Collins. Small world.

George recently spoke with Roy over the phone. His wife Cathy is a Bowen alum class of 1958. George reports that Roy is doing
well, and in good spirits, generally. He is proud to say he has overcome a particular type of lymphoma and continues to take
bi-annual chemo treatments. He feels very confident that he will overcome this difficult illness. Hurrah for you, Roy. Roy hopes
to connect with Ken one of these days because he has read about the local well known band in which Ken plays . I hope they
can do this. Both were musicians in the Bowen band and orchestra.

George Beloz also reports that he met John Corwin at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center, on September 4, 2009.
John came from Florida to see his daughter, Heather, perform a four character role in a hilarious play, "Bright Ideas," by Eric
Coble. George says "It is funny how John and I met, after 50 years. We had agreed earlier to meet at a nearby bookstore, near
the LBPAC. Entering the bookstore, I saw several men looking at the books, but I wasn't sure if any of them was John, and I
don't think John was sure of what I looked like after not seeing me for so many years. I don't know if he reviewed our Bowen
website reunion photos and if he could remember my image. I had an idea of what he looked like based on some family
photos which were found on the web. I assumed that the one of the men I passed by in the bookstore might be him. I looked
again, and called out, "John!" He responded with my name," George!" and the rest his history.

We drove to the Arts Center immediately. As luck would have it, we took a wrong turn on the way there and momentarily got
lost. This caused us to arrive slightly after the play had begun. Nonetheless, we had a great time watching Heather perform and
trying hard not to chat aloud. We let out all stops during the intermission, however. What a comedy script this meeting would
make! John looks great, even though he is now bald, maintaining an older man's athletic physique, and still full of life and
laughter...as he was during our Bowen days. He sends his greetings to our group, and is greatful that we have taken an
interest in contacting him. He says David Petersen has sent him our 50th reunion photos.

George & Ruth had previously met Heather Corwin when she appeared as Trina in the world premiere comedy "Scardeycats"
at the Fremont Centre Theatre in South Pasadena in August 2008. Heather Corwin is a successful TV and stage actress. You can

Dee Mrkacek Husselbee and hsuband Bob Husselbee send their greetings: "Hello and Happy New Year to fellow Bowenites. And
a special hi to fellow East Siders. Bob and I made a trip to the East Side about 2 months ago. We have not been there in years.
We discovered that many of the streets are now one-way, except Ewing and Ave O. We drove up and down the old familiar
streets, recalling friends and family that lived in the various homes. Also noted the many stores down Ewing Ave and 106th St.
Gallistel school looked good with what seemed to be some renovating and all new windows. We stopped by 110th and Ewing to
see my parents former home and the East Side Methodist (formerly EUB) Church. The corner of 110th & Ewing is now known as
Honorary Rev. Lawrence Stauss Dr. What fun it would be to have a reunion for all us that attended the church and involved in
the Youth Group there. And how about a Gallistel reunion?"
Sue Kirk McMullin responded to Dee's message: "Happy New Year's greetings to you all. Although I haven't been back to the
East Side for many years, I thoroughly enjoy the Bowen web page and reading about the many success stories. Dee's mention
of Rev. Stauss and Gallistel brings back great memories. Keep me posted on those reunions!
