BOWEN57
A Website for the Bowen High School Class of 1957
Hello Bowen High School Class of
1957 Alumni!
This is the January 2010 updated edition of
our class website. It has been 2+ years since
our 50th year reunion and there is class news
and new memories to report.

A new website feature is our Bowen Hall of
Fame
page where we pay tribute to those
Bowen alums who have made significant
contributions in the fields of entertainment,
media, the arts, and education.

Our 2007 Reunion Page has many photos,
including the two group pictures. We still
have not been able to identify two people in
the June class group picture. They are
identified only by a "?". Do you know who
they are?

A separate group picture of Caldwell School
alumni was taken that night. Does it exist? Do
you have one? We'd like to add it to the
reunion page. Speaking of school pictures,
do you have an 8th Grade group picture that
we can clean up (with PhotoShop) and
publish?

Beer, Beer for Old Bowen High
You bring the whiskey & I'll bring the rye
Send a freshman out for gin
Don't let a sober sophomore in
We never stagger, we never fall
We sober up on pure alcohol
While our loyal faculty lies drunk on the barroom
floor...
Sung to the tune of Notre Dame's fight song.

We have an updated list of deceased
classmates. You can find it on our "Gone, But
Not Forgotten
" page. If you know of anyone
who's name should be on this list, please let me
know at hdvorin@sbcglobal.net
.
Our Memories Page has obituaries of former
Bowen teachers: Edythe M. Lynch, Loretta
Fitzgerald, Isabelle O. Smith, and Carl
Gustafson. We recently added two new
obituaries: Eli J. Goldberg and Doris Karpen.

We would publish more information about our
former teachers. If you have any to share, let us
know.

Our Email List has an address for Joan
Ganczewski Myles, a former teacher who
attended our 2004 reunion, so drop her a line
and say "Hello".
Earlier this year we celebrated the 100th
birthday of Gene Krupa, a member of our Bowen
Hall of Fame
: Gene Krupa was born on January
15, 1909 and attended Bowen from 1923-25.
Read about the "Drummin' Man".

On a sadder note, we lost two Hall of Fame
members in 2009...Ed "Chicago Ed" Schwartz
died on February 4 at age 62 of renal failure, and
more recently, John "Jack" Ivancevich, one of
our 1957classmates, who died on October 24
after a long battle with cancer. Read their stories
on our Hall of Fame page.
Thinking about a 55-year reunion in 2012? Read
"The Reunion" to get in the right frame of mind.
Thanks to Bebe & Don Brokop for sending this
bit of doggerel.
What doe is mean to be a Chicagoan or former
Chicagoan? See this lis of 45 characterisitics

. I am sure as you go through them, you
will have some of you own to add. So, send them

Nancy Andjelic Gagliano will be one of the
subjects of a new book to be published March 4,
2010. The book is "What Should I Do With the Rest
of My Life? True Stories of Finding Success,
Passion, and New Meaning in the Second Half of
Life " by Bruce Frankel, and it tells the stories of 16
people who changed their lives at an age when
most of us were getting ready to retire. The book
can be ordered now online from Amazon.com. As
many of you know, Nancy went back to school
and became an elementary school teacher in
Broward County, FL at the age of 63. The Spring
2006 issue of "The 411", a magazine published for
and about the teachers and staff of Broward
County Public Schools had a feature article about
Nancy on the front page. Click here to read the
article.
Gallistel School alums who are interested in
organizing and/or attending a reunion should
